Greening Your Workout — Exercise with Alisha

We can recycle products and cut down on our use of plastics in our bid to reduce our carbon footprint. But can we also make our fitness and workout routine environmentally-friendly? Here are some ways you can turn your exercise routine green:

Exercise outdoors

Electrical equipment such as treadmills and cross-trainers and places such as gyms use a lot of energy. By exercising outdoors, we are not only reducing our personal contribution to energy consumption, we also get the benefits of fresh air and sunshine!

Get exercise-social

Find a workout buddy, join an outdoor group fitness challenge or join a local sports team. That way, you’ll reduce the use of energy required to run a 24/7 gym and get the benefit of social interaction.   

Use second-hand or eco-friendly workout gear and equipment

Setting yourself up at home with basic workout equipment doesn’t have to be an expensive ordeal. You can nab bargains for second-hand equipment in good working condition on websites such as Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace and local buy, swap, sell groups. There are also many eco-friendly companies that provide excellent quality workout clothes and equipment that have “environment-friendly” as one of their top values.

Exercise at home

Your own lounge room: it’s convenient, private and difficult to avoid! Jump on our website or YouTube channel for some workout inspiration and get your sweat session done without leaving the house.

Buy a reusable water bottle

It’s a little investment and may require some effort to remember to bring along to your workout, but using a plastic-free reusable bottle—instead of buying single-use bottled water—will do much for the environment.

Fuel-free commutes

If you live close enough, why not bike it or jog to your workout location and use it as your warm up and cool down?
